Shanghai Municipal Welfare Foundation for the Disabled(SMWFD),ratified by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, was established in November 1984.The foundation is a city-wide social organization with the aims of carrying forward the humanitarian spirit, mobilizing the whole social resources to develop the undertaking for the people with disability, launching the campaign of assisting the people with disability and in difficulty, accelerating the people with disability to participate in the social life equally.
With the principles of depending on the society and operating economically, SMWFD has been launching fund-raising activities, striving for the better welfare treatment and doing practical things for 520 thousand people with disability in Shanghai. Up to now, the foundation has given financial support to the establishment of a number of welfare facilities of the disabled, assisted thousands of disabled people’s families in difficulties, set up the scholarship for the students with disability, provided the disabled with financial aid in their rehabilitation treatment, improved the conditions for the disabled to participate in the social life equally, propelled the undertaking of the disabled forward. In this way, it has won high praise from the people with disability and the whole society.
